Holiday Recipe

I said I was going to share some of my favorite recipes. This one is not cookies but it is the first thing I make for Christmas and then freeze it. I have been making this for many years. My mother used to make this every Christmas - she found it in one of our local newspapers in the 1950's. I don't know the actual date. It was from Mamie Eisenhower (sp)

Mamie's Fudge

Butter a 9 x 13 roasting pan and set aside

Have 12 ounces of Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips and 12 ounces of German Chocolate broken into small pieces in a large bowl. Set aside

4 1/2 cups granulated Sugar
1 large can condensed milk
1 pat butter ***
Pinch of Salt
16 ounces of Marshmallow Creme

Bring the above 5 ingredients to a boil in a very large saucepan. Boil for 6 minutes stirring continuously. Pour syrup mixture into bowl with Chocolate and stir well until all the chocolate is melted. You may add nuts if you wish. Allow to cool completely before slicing.

This is not a cheap candy but it really makes a lot. Stores well in the freezer and make a great gift.

Now I need to get the rest of my ingredients so I can get it made. Hope you give it a try.

*** I've been asked about this and I just usually cut about the amount I would use to butter toast, don't ever measure it.
